Where Does a Conversation Go After You Record It?

Draki records on your phone and uses OpenAI cloud transcription after permission. Learn where audio and text go, how deletion works and what MCP shares.

A cream vintage typewriter with labeled black keys holds a long sheet of paper that curves across a soft blush-pink surface and continues beyond the image.

Deleting a recording can mean two different things. You may mean "remove the sound file." You may mean "remove everything saved from that conversation."

Draki keeps audio, transcripts, summaries and speaker information as distinct records across the phone and cloud. Removing one does not establish that the others have gone. A transcript can still give you a way back to a conversation without replaying its audio.

The current public app records on your iPhone and uses OpenAI cloud transcription after your permission. A bracelet is in development; the app does not require it. You can turn recording on or off whenever you want. Here is where the resulting information goes, as described in our privacy policy.

One conversation becomes several records

Suppose a contractor tells you that the replacement window will arrive next Friday. Later, you want to find the date without listening through the whole visit.

RecordWhat it keepsWhat you use it for
AudioThe sound captured during the visitProcessing the speech
TranscriptThe words as textFinding and checking the statement about Friday
SummaryA shorter account of the discussionReviewing the visit quickly
Saved participantsNames and contacts you associate with a conversationFinding earlier discussions with that contractor
Time and permitted location contextWhen, and where available, where the discussion happenedDistinguishing this visit from another one

A summary can omit a qualification that survives in the transcript. Saved contacts can be linked to several conversations. Public Draki does not create voice profiles or automatically identify speakers. These records serve different purposes and need to be considered separately when you want to remove information.

Recording on the phone, processing in the cloud

After accepting cloud processing, you can record offline. Audio waits for eligible Wi-Fi, then uploads in parts to Draki. Speech-containing parts are sent to OpenAI for transcription. Text, recording-part times and permitted location context are stored in your account. This mode does not provide word-level timestamps or automatic speaker recognition.

The phone removes processed audio after the server reports completion. Server cleanup targets completed originals after 24 hours; pending or failed recordings remain for recovery. Backups can also contain audio and text. These rules do not mean every copy disappears immediately. The privacy policy explains provider retention and backup expiry.

Draki offers an optional custom MCP connection for compatible assistants, depending on the client and your account. It shares authorized text and context. Connecting an assistant is separate from the cloud transcription, summaries and search that Draki already uses.

For example, ChatGPT can receive the passage about the window delivery after you authorize a connection. Its handling of that text is governed by its own policies and your settings.

Audio and text are separate records

Deleting the sound file from the contractor's visit is a narrower action than removing the saved discussion. Consider the transcript and summary as well, and whether you shared either with an assistant.

Swipe a stopped conversation in Transcripts and choose Delete. Local deletion intent is saved immediately and server deletion follows when connected. Saved contacts remain. Support can help with account deletion, retained test data and records kept only on your phone; it cannot remotely read device-only content.

The current public app does not enroll voices. Earlier private test versions may have retained audio, reference samples or voice profiles. Switching versions does not erase that data; name it in a deletion request if applicable.

For removal, specify whether you mean one audio file, the saved conversation and its summaries, a voice profile or your whole account. The data-control guide includes a request you can adapt.

Connecting an assistant creates another place to consider

Connecting an assistant through MCP is optional. After you authorize access, the connection can search shared conversation text, return transcript passages and retrieve available history for a confirmed person. It is read-only and limited to your account. It does not export audio, voice samples or voice profiles, or retrieve context you keep only on your phone.

In the window example, an assistant could retrieve the passage about Friday and the date it was said. You do not need to paste an entire month's transcripts into the chat to ask that question.

The returned information has now reached another service. That provider's policies and your settings apply to its copy. Disconnecting Draki stops future retrieval through the connection; it does not erase text from an earlier chat. The connection guide covers setup and permissions.

What Draki uses the information for

Draki uses cloud services for transcription, summaries, search and answers about saved conversations. Account and service information support sign-in, maintenance and security. Information you provide for troubleshooting may be used to evaluate and improve those features.

Draki does not sell personal data or use conversation content for advertising. If you connect an external assistant, check that provider's policies and settings for the text it receives.

For help with local records or a request concerning your account and shared AI context, use Draki support. Name the records you want covered. Distinguishing audio, saved history and any shared copies makes it easier to keep or remove what you intended.

FAQ

Where does Draki store conversation data?
Audio starts on your iPhone and uploads through Draki to OpenAI over Wi-Fi after permission. Draki stores transcripts and context for cloud summaries and search. Downloaded text can be cached in the app. Optional MCP access shares text and context, not raw audio.
Does deleting audio also delete the transcript?
Audio and saved text are separate records. Removing an audio file does not by itself establish that its transcript, summary, voice profile or copies shared with an assistant have also been removed. Specify which records you want to manage when asking support for help.
Does Draki sell my conversations or use them for advertising?
Draki's privacy policy states that it does not sell personal data or use conversation content for advertising. Audio transcription and text analysis use OpenAI through Draki. Account and service information are also processed to operate and support the service.
Does a connected AI receive my original audio?
No. Draki's optional MCP connection shares authorized text and context, never raw recordings, voice samples or voice profiles. It is read-only and cannot retrieve material kept only on your phone. Information returned to an assistant is also governed by that provider's policies and your settings.
